Long-Lasting, Mineral-Based Protection

Mineral based sunscreens like Reeler’s Shield are superior to chemical based sun screens because they stop more visible light and UV radiation from reaching the skin. Mineral sunscreens use active mineral ingredients such as zinc oxide. They reflect the sun's rays like a mirror to protect exposed skin, whereas chemical sunscreens absorb the sun’s rays.

Mineral based sunscreens last longer on the skin and are much less likely to irritate the skin. They also contain no harsh chemicals that can damage or irritate the skin. Mineral based sunscreens start working almost immediately, and have a longer shelf life than their chemical-based counterparts.

Stay Safe in the Sun

Skin cancer is the most preventable of all cancers. If caught early, it's usually curable. The best way to lower your skin cancer risk is to simply protect your skin from the sun. Apply sunscreen if you're planning to be in the sun for more than 20 minutes. Make sure to check your skin and see a dermatologist regularly. If you're taking an antibiotic or other medications, ask your doctor or nurse if it may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun.

Avoid direct sunlight

Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible during the peak sun hours, generally 10:00am to 3:00pm, or seek shade during this part of day.

Go for full protection

Wear a hat and other protective clothing while in the sun. Wear UV-protective sunglasses.

Don't forget your lips

Wear lip balm with an SPF 15 or higher.

Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen

Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen — with an SPF of at least 30 — containing both UVA and UVB protection. Mineral based sunscreen reflects the sun’s rays. Look for the ingredient zinc oxide on the label.

Reapply frequently

Reapply sunscreen frequently, at least every two hours when outdoors, especially if you perspire. Your best bet is to choose water-resistant products (80 min.) that are more likely to stay on your skin.
